AFCON 2023: Victor Osimhen spotted trying to prostrate to Drogba after Nigeria beat Ivory Coast

In a crucial match against the host nation, Ivory Coast, Nigeria faced challenging odds at Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara, Newspremises understands.

However, against expectations, the Super Eagles emerged victorious with a 1-0 win. Captain William Troost-Ekong secured the triumph by converting a second-half penalty earned by Victor Osimhen, who was fouled by Ousmane Diomande.

According to CAF Media, this victory positioned Nigeria on equal points with group leaders Equatorial Guinea. Despite being level on points, Equatorial Guinea maintains a superior goal difference following their 4-2 victory against Guinea Bissau earlier in the day.

A noteworthy encounter occurred between Napoli striker Osimhen and Ivorian legend Didier Drogba in the tunnel. The meeting took place during a delayed warm-up caused by traffic delays. Following Nigeria’s triumph, Osimhen and Drogba reunited, with a surprise appearance by Djibril Cisse.

A video shared by Bein Sports captured the moment when Serie A striker Osimhen attempted to perform a customary prostration, a traditional greeting in South West Nigeria where he hails from, towards Chelsea legend Drogba.

However, he was gently restrained, and the two exchanged a warm hug. Despite joking about working hard to defeat Drogba’s country, the exchange was marked by laughter.

With reduced pressure, Nigeria will face Guinea Bissau in their final group match, while Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea will engage in a challenging battle.
