Barcelona star Pedri leaps in defence of Cristiano Ronaldo against his critics

Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to join the Saudi Pro League has drawn criticism, yet Barcelona’s Pedri has stepped up to defend the renowned footballer.

Following the termination of his Manchester United contract and a high-profile interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo opted for a move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

Despite this controversial move, a year into his tenure in the Gulf state, Ronaldo’s performances have continued to strengthen, attracting several other European stars to the league.

Despite his time in the Arab country, Ronaldo remains a contender for the FIFPro World XI 2023, alongside his long-time rival Lionel Messi, now playing in the MLS.

However, since his transfer to Al-Nassr, sections of fans on social media have criticized the 38-year-old, diminishing his achievements and branding him as “finished.”

In response to these criticisms, Barca’s Pedri defended Ronaldo during a Twitch stream, asserting that those disparaging him have limited football knowledge.

He emphasized, “Anyone who says Cristiano Ronaldo is bad is foolish and knows nothing about football.”

In 2023, the former Real Madrid star emerged as the top scorer with 54 goals, surpassing other prominent European players such as Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, who both scored 52 goals each.

Looking ahead to 2024, Ronaldo aims to lead Al-Nassr in their quest to surpass Al-Hilal and claim victory in the Saudi Pro League. Simultaneously, he is gearing up to represent Portugal in Euro 2024.
