Football superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been pictured playing chess against one another ahead of the World Cup.

Ronaldo and Messi have been the biggest names in the beautiful game as their frequent El Clasico clashes and Balon d’Or rivalry grabbed the attention of a generation of football lovers.

The duo took part in a photoshoot which was shared on Instagram just days before the start of football’s biggest tournament.

The post, sponsored by Louis Vuitton, went up on Saturday evening from both the Argentina and Portugal footballers’ respective social media handles.

Both men posted similar captions alongside the photo – which the pair shared on the photo and video sharing social networking service.

“Victory is a State of Mind,” read the post.

Argentina will lock horns against Saudi Arabia on November 22, before taking on Mexico and a showdown with Robert Lewandowski’s Poland in Group C matches.

Portugal, on the other hand, square off against Ghana on November 24 in their opening World Cup game.

There is a chance of a Portugal vs Argentina match-up at the Mundial, where Ronaldo and Messi will cross swords against each other.

Meanwhile, Part one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with controversial journalist Piers Morgan dropped on Wednesday night, November 16, and the Manchester United star touched on more topics.

He expressed his delight in beating Lionel Messi’s shirt sales after joining Manchester United last summer.

When the club announced the sensational return of their former star, fans could not contain their excitement and it showed through the record number of jersey sales in a 24-hour perio.
