Former president Goodluck Jonathan mourns Idriss Déby

Former president Goodluck Jonathan has expressed sadness over death of Chadian president Idriss Deby, Newspremises reports.

Although the cause of the president death still remain sketchy, the military said, he die of injury sustained on the front line, fighting against rebel soldiers.


Taking to his verified Tweeter handle on Wednesday morning, to mourn Deby, Goodluck Jonathan wrote:

“I am saddened by the sudden death of Chad’s President Idriss Déby. As a leader, he made great efforts to stabilise the Sahel Region & bring peace to the continent. I condole with the Govt & People of Chad over his death and pray for the peace & progress of the nation.”

Late Deby would have been one of the longest-serving leaders in the world, after provisional results showed him winning the April 11 election.
