Harry Maguire blames De Gea for his poor form at Manchester United

Harry Maguire, the captain of Manchester United, is blaming David De Gea’s poor communication and unwillingness to come off his line for his (Maguire’s) subpar performance at Old Trafford during the past 12 months.

After their defeats to Brentford and Brighton, Erik ten Hag decided to withdraw England international Harry Maguire from Manchester United’s starting lineup.

The Red Devils have won all four league games with Maguire sitting on the sidelines because Ten Hag decided to start new acquisition Lisandro Martinez alongside Raphael Varane.

Last season, the 29-year-old defender received harsh criticism from fans as the Red Devils’ captain took the brunt of their anger at seeing their team finish sixth.

However, ESPN reports that Maguire believes his teammates and coaches have let him down by not using his strengths.

The goalkeeper De Gea has the most “frustrated” Maguire, the study said.

Maguire’s lack of speed combined with the number one goalkeeper in Spain’s inability to sprint off his line has given opponents plenty of space to play in front of United’s defense.

Additionally, the England international believes De Gea’s poor communication has a part to play in his performance.
