Paris Saint-Germain superstars, Lionel Messi has reportdely beat teammate, Kylian Mbappe to win the the ‘World’s Best Player’ for 2022 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
Messi provided the perfect cap to a remarkable 2022 by helping Argentina win the FIFA World Cup and emerging as the competition’s top player.
He beat competition from Mbappe, whom Messi beat to the World Cup trophy, and current Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema to win the accolade.
Along with winning the award, Messi was also awarded the IFFHS World’s Best International Goal Scorer 2022 Award winner, beating out the aforementioned players.
Messi’s achievement in 2022?
Sportskeeda claims that the former Barcelona talisman’s Ligue 1 championship with PSG in April was his first major accomplishment.
In June, he continued by leading Argentina to victory over Italy in the Finalissma.
After scoring once in a 4-0 victory over Nantes in July, Messi followed up his Finalissima triumph with the French Super Cup with PSG.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner then cemented his status as the greatest player in history, leading Argentina to claim the World Cup in Qatar.
