Jose Mourinho issues rare praise for Man United fringe player

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has issued some rare praise for old his old club’s current players. Writing in his column for The Sun, the Portuguese tactician, now employed by Roma, has weighed in on the Welsh’ national team’s chances going into this summer’s Euros.

As the delayed European Championships fast approach, many United players are currently away on international duties, preparing to represent their countries on the grandest of stages – one of those called up to his national side is Red Devils’ winger Dan James.

After arriving at Old Trafford two years ago, the Welsh attacker has endured tricky spells.

However, despite now being resigned to more of a squad role, the young winger still remains at the forefront of Wales manager Rob Page’s team plans.

Having been included in Page’s final 26-man squad for the summer Euros (The Athletic), assuming he does not pick up an untimely injury, James will be back in action later on this month.

Speaking about Wales’ chances in this year’s major international tournament, Mourinho took the time to praise the United wide-man.

“It’s not an easy situation for a country without many options,” Mourinho said. “But they are always well organised and know how to create a situation to try to get the best out of the more talented players.

“Dan James is fast and is the one that can break defenders.

“With the small group of players they are doing amazingly well, so lots of respect.

“But it will be hard for them even to qualify for the next phase.”
