The World Athletics has ratified Tobi Amusan’s world record in the Women’s 100m Hurdles from the semifinals of the Athletics Championships in Oregon in July.
On Tuesday, September 20, the athletics organization issued a statement confirming the circumstance.
Impressive Amusan shocked everyone by beating former world record holder Kendra Harrison, who had set the 100-meter hurdles world record in 2016 with a time of 12.20 seconds, to the finish line in 12.12 seconds.
Amusan continued the winning streak in the final with another electrifying performance of 12.06 (2.5 m/s), although that was labeled as wind-assisted.
Following the record-breaking feat, the 25-year-old said via Channels TV:
“The goal was to come out and to win this gold, Honestly, I believe in my abilities, but I was not expecting a world record at these championships.”
The time of 12.12 seconds makes it the official world record to beat in the women’s hurdles.
