Mason Mount is by the most consistent performer this season under Thomas Tuchel. He is almost certain to be named the club’s player of the season.
The Chelsea star said the energy work rate, and his intelligence when he doesn’t have the ball, is what has helped him in becoming a key figure in the Thomas Tuchel team.
Mount played a central midfield role under former manager Frank Lampard. Since Tuchel took over the reins at Stamford Bridge, he has always preferred to use Mount as one of his three attacking players.
Mount’s new playing position has proofed to work as he has been the Chelsea top goalscorer under Tuchel. The England international has scored 5 goals since the arrival of the new coach.
Mount started from Chelsea Academy and now has grown to become a key starter for the Chelsea club. He has the ability to press opponents and help create turnovers in the pitch, an ability that has gained recognition from those in the England set-up. Mount acknowledges his effort and his desire to win back possession stemmed from his father’s comments.
Mount said:
“I always looked at the other side of the game,” Mount explained in an interview with Chelsea’s matchday program for tomorrow’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Porto.
“My dad would say, ‘You don’t want to be a luxury number 10. They’re going out the game. You want to be someone that can do the attacking side of it, but also the defensive side.’
“That’s what the modern game is like – you’ve got to work hard to win the ball back as well.
