Mason Mount: Thomas Tuchel has vindicated Frank Lampard – Gareth Southgate

England boss, Gareth Southgate has suggested that Thomas Tuchel’s continued use of midfielder, Mason Mount at Chelsea has vindicated sacked manager, Frank Lampard.

Southgate and Lampard’s loyalty to Mount has been questioned in some quarters and the England boss noted the criticism they received for continuously fielding the player is no longer coming because new Chelsea boss, Tuchel is also a fan of the midfielder.

According to Southgate, Mount is only now getting the credit he deserves because Tuchel now manages him at Chelsea and not Lampard.

Southgate is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old and has named him in his starting XI for the seventh straight games for England.

After managing Mount at Derby County and then Chelsea, Lampard was accused of favouritism when he continued to pick the midfielder in his side.

Those accusations followed Mount to the international level, despite scoring four goals in 15 international appearances.

Lampard was sacked in January and when Tuchel took over he continued to pick Mount, and Southgate says that should finally silence his critics.

Speaking after Sunday’s win in Tirana, Southgate said of Mount, “He is a great player, but I was saying this in the autumn. I suppose now that Thomas Tuchel picks him, everybody will agree. When it was Frank, it doesn’t count for some reason.”

Southgate further described the former U21midfielder as an exceptional and intelligent player who manipulates the ball very well, creates chances and also scores goals.

Mason is one of the products of Chelsea feeder team and was introduced into senior set by Frank Lampard who believed so much in the youngster.
