Mohammed Kudus names Jay Jay Okocha as greatest African player ever

Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has expressed admiration for Nigerian football legend Austin Jay Jay Okocha, naming him as his favorite African player.

Kudus, who currently plays for West Ham, lauds Okocha as the greatest African player ever, attributing this to Okocha’s exceptional skills and talent showcased during his playing career.

“I will say Jay Jay Okocha. From explaining on how in my lens I see creative players trying to entertain the game, that can never be washed away and the fans can never forget that the experience and your entertainment you give on the pitch,” Kudus told Sky Sports.

“I know now goals and assists are important but I like creative players and players that entertain the fans. Trying to do something different than passing the ball around,” he added.

Okocha, a former captain of the Nigerian national team, has a decorated history, earning accolades such as the BBC Player of the Year award and achieving the Goal of the Year in the Bundesliga in 1993.

Kudus particularly appreciates Okocha’s ability to captivate fans with his flair and natural abilities on the field, which has solidified his status as a football icon.

In addition to his admiration for Okocha, Kudus is enjoying a successful season at West Ham, leading the dribblers chart in the English Premier League.

He has also showcased his goal-scoring prowess with 13 goals across various competitions, including a memorable solo strike against Freiburg that earned him the Goal of the Month recognition.

Kudus made a significant move to West Ham during the summer transfer window from Dutch powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam, highlighting his own rise in the football world alongside his admiration for Okocha’s legacy.
