Mr Red Card: Sergio Ramos receives his 28th red card of his footballing career in PSG’s game against Reims

Sergio Ramos continued his bizarre tradition as he was once more given a red card during Paris Saint Germain’s match against Reims on Saturday, October 8, 2022, Newspremises reports.

Four minutes before halftime, Ramos, who has found his form again this season following a challenging first year with the Parisians, was sent off.

The 35-year-old former Real Madrid captain, who has established himself as a no-nonsense defender, was first issued a yellow card before being dismissed for dissent.

As highlighted by Squawka, the 2010 World Cup winner has now received a red card 28 times in his professional career after receiving it in PSG’s away game against Reims in Ligue 1.

Breakdown of Sergio Ramos’ infamous disciplinary record

Ramos had a spotless disciplinary record throughout his three seasons with Sevilla in his formative years, receiving no red cards while playing at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

A previously spotless disciplinary record, however, was spectacularly tarnished during the 35-year-16-year old’s affiliation with Real Madrid.

Ramos received an astounding 26 red cards while playing for Los Blancos, his first coming in the dying seconds of a 1-0 loss at Espanyol in September 2005, according to ESPN.

He was up and running in just his third game for PSG after switching from Madrid to Paris, bringing his total to 27 last season. Against Reims on Sunday, he extended his unenviable feat to 28.
