Norwich relegated from Premier League after Aston Villa defeat

Norwich City have been relegated from the Premier League after Dean Smith’s side were defeated at his former club Aston Villa, Newspremises reports.

The Canaries’ 2-0 loss, courtesy of goals from Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, was their 23rd defeat of the season and condemns them to life the second tier after Burnley fought back from a goal down to beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

Norwich were comfortably second best at Villa – Smith’s boyhood club – with the performance indicative of their inability to create clear-cut chances and apply sustained pressure.

It’s the fourth time in eight seasons that Norwich have gone down, with their current points haul currently on a par with the amount they registered during the 2019/20 season.
