Osun police foil hoodlums attempt to free arrested murder suspects (photos)

Operatives of Osun State Police Command have on Wednesday, 25th of August, foiled an attempt by some hoodlums to free arrested murder suspects, Newspremises reports.

SP Yemisi Opalola, the state police spokesman who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday afternoon said that, the Osun Police tactical team were taking some murder suspects to Ilesa correctional center when their vehicle developed a fault around Osunjela river along Osogbo/Ilesa Road.

According to her, as nearby Mechanics were working on the vehicle, four (4) armed men emerged from Osunjela Road on a Bajaj Motorcycle and attacked the Police team by firing sporadically in a bid to hijack suspects. The spokesperson said the superior fire-power of the Police team forced the hoodlums to abandon their Motorcycle, three locally made guns; one (1) pump action, two(2) cut to size barrel guns with fourteen(14) live cartridges.

She noted further that, in the process three murder suspects sustained several degrees of injuries and later died at Asubiaro hospital in Osogbo and were deposited in the same hospital morgue while the hoodlums fled into the bush with bullet wounds.

She added that the police in collaboration with the youths of the community and the local security outfits have started combing the bush for possible arrest of the fleeing suspects.
