Manchester United travel to the Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening to face Chelsea. The Reds are coming from a goalless draw against Real Sociedad in the second leg of the last-32 tie in Europa League on Thursday.
United are currently second in the Premier League table as they are six points clear of Chelsea who occupy the fourth spot.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was spotted at the Carrington training ground on Friday afternoon. It was Solskjaer’s 48th birthday but he celebrated it at work as he prepares his team ahead of the game.
Recall that the first leg at Old Trafford ended in a goalless draw earlier in the season.
Manchester United squad were involved in the training, as they were divided into groups.
David De Gea who is the club’s number one lead the likes of second option Dean Henderson as they practiced they goalkeeping techniques.
While captain Harry Maguire was pictured with his team mates while showing off some defensive skills.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has continued to give youngsters Shoretire and Amad Diallo opportunities as they were pictured in training. Both youngsters made their appearances against Real Sociedad.
Meanwhile, it’s been gathered that Juan Mata is unavailable for the trip to Chelsea. Also, Paul Pogba is still ruled out due to injury as he continues to recover.
“Juan will unfortunately be out for a couple of weeks, so he missed tonight,” said Solskjaer.
Solskjaer also revealed that midfielder duo of Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani remain doubts for the game.
According Solskjaer: “We hope that they [Scott, Donny and Edinson] can be available for the weekend but I’m not sure. Paul is still out for a few weeks, unfortunately.”
While speaking on his defensive selection for the game, he stated that Harry Maguire who was rested in mid week might start.
Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly both played as pairs at the back against Real Sociedad.
“Both of them played really well,” Solskjaer said. “We’ve got Eric, Victor and Harry, three very good centre-backs that I can rely on and Axel [Tuanzebe] as well, so I’ve got four to choose from. Axel played in midfield this evening but sometimes it’s the opposition and sometimes it’s the form. I think the two of them will keep on playing, maybe playing together as well.”
Just so you know, Manchester United will host AC Milan in the round of 16 Europa League next week Thursday.
