Rangnick explains his decision to bench Harry Maguire against Arsenal

Manchester United interim boss, Raff Rangnick has explained his decision to put captain, Harry Maguire on bench for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Arsenal, Newspremises reports.

For the game, Rangnick opted for central defensive pairing of Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.

Maguire has been a consistent performer for United this season, missing only five of the team’s 33 Premier League games.

Rangnick’s decision comes after Maguire received a bomb threat, prompting police and sniffer dogs to extensively examine his home in midweek.

The England international has also faced criticism for his performance in Tuesday’s calamitous 4-0 defeat at Liverpool.

“I had to make a decision between the three of them [Lindelof, Varane, Maguire]. Two could only play,” Rangnick told MUTV.

“Harry has had a tough week. I decided to give him a rest and play with Rapha Varane and Victor Lindelof,” he said.
