Interestingly, this is the First time ever Real Madrid will lock horns with Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League. Though the two clubs have alot in common in terms of their player.
After playing a goaless draw against Real Betis in the weekend, Madrid’s hope for the La Liga tittle race is fading away. So madrid will be focusing more on the only promising tittle left for them to lift, which is the Champions League.
Here are 3 reasons why Real Madrid will win against Chelsea in the first leg.
Raphael Varane and Elder Militao
Despite missing key defenders to injuries like Sergio Ramos, Lucas Vazquez and Ferland Mendy, Real Madrid have still proven strong in the back line. With the likes of Raphael Varane, Eder Militao, Nacho Fernand and the return of Dani Cavajal which is a big plus to Madrid. And on the wings, Marcelo alongside Odriozola paired with Cavajal will make the LB and RB very strong and impenetrable.
Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Lucas Vazquez and Luka Modrić
Real’s midfield trio Toni Kroos, Luka Modrić and Casemiro would be key in the midfield. Instead of playing long balls to Benzema, Courtois will be playing with the full backs and Modric as usual. Modric in turn will get past Chelsea’s front line, getting the ball to midfield and finding Toni Kroos will be the key in the build up. Kroos will in turn will find a clear outlet to feed either Benzema or Vinicius Jr, who can convert a one on one situation to a goal.
Real Madrid’s front line has lots of experience when it comes to this competition, while Chelsea’s front line are inexperienced. A big boast for Madrid is the return of the blues supper star Eden Harzad, he played a sensational performance in the goaless draw against Betis despite playing just a few minutes. He definitely will looking to make an impact against Chelsea, so that he would be remembered.
Karim Benzema is another treat to the Blues, we all saw his masterclass performance against Cadiz. He scored twice, and provided an assist earning the man of the match. Him pairing with the speed and creativity of Vinicius Jr, will be a way to penetrate Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silver.
