Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva has issued a public apology to everyone, especially his teammates following their devastating 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
In Newcastle’s return game for Isak since his injury absence, the Swede swiftly scored within 13 minutes of his first start since October 8th. He netted from close range following a precision pass by Lewis Miley, who, at 17 years and 208 days, became the sixth youngest player to assist a Premier League goal, joining the ranks of Aaron Lennon, Wayne Rooney, Jonathan Leko, Cesc Fabregas, and Jordon Ibe.
Chelsea, opting to bench Moises Caicedo and grant Benoit Badiashile his inaugural Premier League start of the season, equalized at the 23-minute mark. Sterling earned a free-kick and converted it brilliantly to level the score.
Despite Joelinton’s significant opportunity to put Newcastle back in front, his header from Kieran Trippier’s corner went wide with Sanchez out of position, marking one of the season’s glaring misses.
Subsequently, Nick Pope denied Enzo Fernandez’s attempt, while Trippier’s free-kick struck the crossbar, keeping the score at 1-1 by halftime.
However, Newcastle seized control of the game shortly after the hour mark. Lascelles scored his first Premier League goal in over two years from Gordon’s cross, followed almost immediately by Joelinton finding the net after a mistake by Thiago Silva, who got entangled, allowing Joelinton a one-on-one opportunity against Sanchez.
Thiago Silva has now taken to his X page to tender an apology to everyone for the defeat while taking responsibility for Chelsea’s defeat to Newcastle United.
Chelsea’s captain, James, received a red card in the 73rd minute for losing possession to Gordon and subsequently fouling the winger, earning a second yellow card. Adding to their woes, Marc Cucurella received his fifth yellow card of the season for dissent, resulting in both of Chelsea’s full-backs missing the next Sunday home match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Further compounding Chelsea’s troubles, Gordon extended Newcastle’s lead by scoring after an assist by Miguel Almiron.
The result sees Newcastle accumulating 23 points, placing them four points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, while Chelsea remains in 10th position with 16 points.
