Victor Osimhen involved in heated clash with Jose Mourinho during Napoli’s 2-0 defeat to Roma

Roma secured a notable victory over reigning Serie A champions Napoli with a 2-0 win, marked by a heated confrontation between Jose Mourinho and Victor Osimhen, which culminated in the Napoli striker’s dismissal.

The match saw Napoli’s defeat with second-half goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Romelu Lukaku. Tensions flared as Mourinho engaged in a touchline argument with Osimhen, the 2023 Africa Player of the Year, over an earlier incident during the game, as reported by GOAL.

Mourinho expressed frustration with Osimhen for what seemed to be a simulation in the penalty area, aiming to secure a penalty for Napoli. However, the disagreement between the two was eventually resolved amicably.

Osimhen’s involvement in the dispute with Mourinho was followed by his expulsion from the game. He received a red card from the referee in the 86th minute after accumulating a second yellow card, just 13 minutes after his initial booking.

Mourinho proud of Roma’s victory

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho praised his team’s performance and their commendable victory over Serie A champions Napoli, as stated in Roma Press.

The 60-year-old manager acknowledged that his players were fatigued before the match but lauded their resolve to secure a 2-0 win through sheer determination.

Following a recent 2-0 loss to Bologna, Roma rebounded strongly. Looking ahead, they are focused on continuing their winning streak as they prepare to take on Juventus on December 30.
