Video: Real Madrid legend, Marcelo receives rousing welcome to new club in front of over 20,000 fans

Marcelo Oliviera was on Monday, September 9, formally introduced to Olympiacos supporters in front of 20,000 spectators at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium, Newspremises reports.

The number 12 that the former Real Madrid captain had worn at the Santiago Bernabeu for the previous 16 years was displayed on his back.

The energized crowd inside the stadium yelled the 34-year-name old’s and lit flares to welcome their new celebrity as he entered the field.


Following his arrival at the Athens International Airport with his wife and two sons, Marcelo was brought to the stadium by Olympiacos’ director of athletics and former Real Madrid defender Christian Karembeu.

“Thank you. I am very happy and satisfied. My family too. I hope to help the team with great devotion,” Marcelo told the fans, adding in Greek, “Let’s go, Olympiakos!”

Olympiacos signed Marcelo on a one-year deal, with an option for an additional year, after he was club-less since he left Real Madrid in July this year.

The Brazilian brought his 15-year trophy-laden spell with Los Blancos Madrid to an end this summer.

He became the most decorated player in the history of Real Madrid when he helped Los Blancos to the Champions League title this year.
