(Video) Xabi Alonso proved ‘class is permanent’ after his sensational first touch during Champions League clash

One of the all-time greatest midfielders in football history is the Spanish icon Xabi Alonso. One of the best defensive midfielders of his period, Xabi Alonso is currently the head coach of the German team Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Xabi himself retired from football in 2017 after playing for Bayern Munich. Later, Xabi Alonso took over as the coach.

As the team manager of Real Sociedad B in 2019, Xabi Alonso began his management career.

Later, in October 2022, he was appointed manager of Bundesliga team Bayer Leverkusen. The club management replaced Gerardo Seoane as coach with Xabi Alonso following a subpar season. Leverkusen haven’t quite performed up to expectations under Xabi, though.

Leverkusen has only won one of its seven games played under Xabi so far. Leverkusen has 9 points from 12 games, including 2 victories, 3 draws, and 7 losses, placing them in 16th place in the Bundesliga standings.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, has qualified for the Europa League after finishing third in their group, despite being eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage.

Video of Xabi’s first touch of the ball as it rebounded off the touch line to the man approaching to accept the throw during the most recent Champions League match against Club Brugge is currently trending online.

Football commentators and football fans alike are praising the 40-year-first old’s touch, despite the fact that fans claim that Xabi’s performance is nothing short of miraculous for those who have seen him play.
