Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar marked his Besiktas return with an impressive performance scoring a wonderful goal which was excruciatingly ruled out for offside.
Aboubakar made his second competitive appearance for the Turkish giants as he started their Super Lig match against Alanyaspor on January 27th.
Cenk Tosun broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after 20 minutes. 16 minutes later, Aboubakar doubled the lead but, the video assistant referee (VAR) ruled it out for offside.
The 31-year-old took advantage of a layoff and a long ball that was floated upward to lift the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net. His joy was quickly curtailed after a quick review by the VAR.
In spite of the slight setback, Besiktas defeated their opponents at Vodafone Park by a wide margin. Dele Alli added a third goal, while Tosun scored his second goal of the half.
Aboubakar’s disallowed goal brought back memories of the goal he scored at the 2022 Qatar World Cup when he lopped the ball past Serbia’s goalkeeper Vanja Milinkonvic-Savic.
This comes at a time when his replacement at Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo continue to struggle. Ronaldo had a challenging evening as his team was eliminated by Al-Ittihad from the Saudi Cup.
