(Watch video): Liverpool assistant captain, James Milner openly scold teammate Virgil Van Dijk after sluggish defending led to sancho’s goal

Liverpool seems to be in complete disarray. Despite being widely regarded as Manchester City’s main competition three games into the new season, Jurgen Klopp’s team is yet to record a victory, Newspremises reports.

After drawing with Fulham and Crystal Palace, Liverpool was routed at Old Trafford by a resurgent Manchester United, leaving them with a meager 2 points and in the relegation places.

There has been much discussion over the potential reasons behind Liverpool’s sluggish start. For Klopp, there were many first-team absentees in addition to Sadio Mane’s absence. Virgil Van Dijk’s decline in form, though, is something that is swiftly coming to light.

In Liverpool’s backline, Van Dijk frequently exudes serenity. He is frequently so cool-headed when making timely tackles and deterring attacks. But at least three of Liverpool’s five goals so far have been scored by the tall defender.

Examples of times this season where Van Dijk’s subpar defending has caused Liverpool to concede

The Netherlands captain against Fulham left his leg behind, tripping Aleksandar Mitrovi in the penalty area. The striker then took charge in a contest in which Fulham ultimately managed to earn an amazing point.

After that, Van Dijk came under fire for failing to find Wilfried Zaha despite having time to do so as Liverpool managed another discouraging draw against Crystal Palace at home. His most recent setback occurred against Liverpool when he didn’t appear to make a tackle, allowing Jadon Sancho to score a stunning goal as United sprinted to a 2-1 victory.

After the goal, Van Dijk and James Milner engaged in an open argument because Milner was upset. According to Metro UK, Milner questioned Van Dijk about why he didn’t try to stop Sancho.

Milner’s annoyance was merely the epitome of how Klopp’s team’s standards had fallen.
